In 2022, 6.19 million foreign tourists visited India, up from 1.52 million in 2021, but still below 2019’s 10.93 million. Despite a 44% dip, the market is expected to hit $22.3 billion this year and grow to $34.11 billion by 2029.
India’s tourism sector, while experiencing a positive recovery trajectory, faces stiff competition from other global destinations. According to the World Economic Forum (WEF), India ranks 39th out of 119 countries in terms of global tourism, highlighting the country’s potential to grow further in the international tourism market. With its rich cultural heritage, diverse landscapes, and rapidly expanding infrastructure, India has the opportunity to improve its global ranking and become an even more attractive destination for international tourists in the coming years.
As India continues to rebuild and expand its tourism sector, the country is poised for significant growth in the coming years. With efforts to improve infrastructure, promote diverse tourist attractions, and enhance the overall visitor experience, India can strengthen its position as a top global destination.
