It happens only in India, where many cases of heinous crimes, corruption, and rights violations lie pending for years—but guess what gets suo motu priority? Stray Dogs.

First, the Supreme Court said: round them all up and lock them in shelters within 8 weeks.

Then animal welfare groups reminded everyone: sterilization and vaccination work, mass sheltering doesn’t.

Delhi has about 1 million stray dogs, and India accounts for 36% of global rabies deaths. Instead of fixing municipal failures, we’ve been playing legal ping-pong with lives—both human and canine.

Finally, the Court reconsidered:

• Non-aggressive, vaccinated, neutered dogs to be release back to their location.
• No feeding dogs in public—“special feeding zones” will be prepared.
• Adopt strays—but once adopted, they can’t go back to the street.
