The concerning rise in C-sections in both the U.S. and India has resulted in one in three births in the U.S., and nearly one in two births in India being classified as C-section. 

According to WHO, only 10-15% rate of C-sections are considered ideal.

Various factors are at play here: rise in patients being sicker overall, hospital politics, financial incentives & kickbacks, and repeat C-sections for mothers who have previously undergone them.

However, expanding access to doula care and new legislation could help lower the rates of C-sections.
